Case Study. The Changing Face of HR BPO. Hewitt
In just five years, HR business process outsourcing has gone from creative concept to proven business solution. Scores of companies today outsource multiple HR processes to a single provider—transforming their delivery model, creating a more strategic HR function, and providing improved service to their workforce. What will tomorrow hold? As HR BPO continues to evolve, companies are learning from past mistakes and employing new conventional wisdom around the process of migrating to an HR BPO solution. Join us in this facilitated discussion, as we examine what companies need to do to make HR BPO work. |

Interactive Presentation: Retained HR Organization Design: The forgotten part of HRO. Moderated by Peter Weinberg of Buck Consultants and Rosemary Collins of TPI.
One of the essential factors in a successful outsourcing venture is the role played by that part of the organization that is not outsourced – the retained organization. The totality of the HR function incorporates not only that which has been outsourced, but also that which remains – the measure of success is a function of how well these two parts combine to address the strategic, tactical, and transactional requirements of the organization. Successful transformation of the HR functions requires paying attention to the retained organization. The impact on what remains within the organization may be just as, if not more, critical. This discussion will address the issues facing the retained organization both during and after an HRO, and will include such issues as:
- The post-outsourcing People Strategy: What ongoing role does the organization envision will be performed by HR in respect of people requirements following the outsourcing?
- The post-outsourcing HR Strategy: What are the HR services that will be provided by HR to achieve this?
- The post-outsourcing HR Service Delivery Strategy: What is the HR organization that will give effect to this? (both global and at country-level)
- Structure
- People
- Technology
- Process
- Metrics

Afternoon Plenary Session
Good Governance. Arthur Mazor of Fidelity and Neil McEwan of PA Consulting will moderate a roundtable discussion on how to construct effective governance models. We all know governance is important, but how should governance practices be introduced to an HR function that is typically under-managed? This session will address:
- What are the must-do-tasks and what are nice-to-haves?
- Why do service providers place so much importance on strong governance in their clients?
- What are the characteristics of a strong governance lead?
- What is the business case for governance?
- Where should HR directors turn internally for help managing outsourcing and shared services?
This session will be ideal for anyone currently managing or who may be charged with managing a contract, service providers, and attorneys. Discussion leaders will include Mr. Mazor, Mr. McEwan, and Carlos Nicot of Convergys.
