Dan Griswold

Director of the Cato Institute Center for Trade Policy Studies

Daniel T. Griswold is Director of the Center for Trade Policy Studies at the Cato Institute in Washington, DC. Since joining Cato in 1997, Mr. Griswold has authored or co-authored major studies on globalization, trade and immigration, including the 2007 study, “Trading Up: How Expanding Trade has Delivered Better Jobs and Higher Living Standards.” He has authored articles for the Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Times, the Financial Times, and other major publications and has appeared on C-SPAN, CNN, PBS, the BBC, and Fox News. He has testified before congressional committees and federal agencies on a range of trade and immigration issues. Earlier in his career, he served as a congressional press secretary and the editorial page editor of the Colorado Springs Gazette.
He holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and a diploma in economics and a master's degree in the Politics of the World Economy from the London School of Economics.

Kevin has an extensive background working with vendors and end-users of technologies that drive human capital and business performance improvement. Prior to his work at Aberdeen, Kevin was an independent consultant who worked with several e-Learning company clients to create and implement strategic business development and market positioning initiatives. Prior to that, Kevin was vice president of sales and marketing at Comet Learning which partnered with HP and CompUSA to bring to market end-user focused interactive education and support solutions. Prior to that, he was vice president of sales and marketing at TechOnLine (later acquired by CMP Media), a leading information portal to the electronics industry, where the company’s solutions became the standard for electronic OEMs to educate customers and distribution channels online. Prior to that, Kevin was director of sales and sales operations at ComputerPREP (acquired by Prosoft Training.com), where he also led go-to-market initiatives surrounding the company’s entree into learning management, web-conferencing, and web-based assessments.

Kevin has served on the boards of ADAPT (a Boston-based IT training organization) and the Information Technology Training Conference, and currently serves as board vice president of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Massachusetts/Metrowest. Kevin holds a M.B.A. from Boston University and a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Dayton.

LeAnne Andersen is director, human resource operations for Best Buy, a multinational retailer of technology and entertainment products and services. She is responsible for creating and executing strategies to ensure human capital excellence to support the financial growth goals of the company. This includes managing Best Buy’s partnerships with external human resource providers.

Andersen chairs The Buyers Group leadership committee. The Buyers Group membership is comprised of large market human resource operations buyers dedicated to maturing the relatively young industry.   

Prior to joining Best Buy in 1999, Andersen held a variety of leadership roles at Target Corporation. Areas of emphasis included business transformation, supply chain optimization and a commitment to external partnerships. 

Andersen graduated with a bachelor of arts from Minnesota State University at Mankato where she majored in journalism and mass communication. She also has a masters of business administration from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.

For eight years Christian has been developing SAP’s BPO and business service provider partnering in the context of strategy, market development and marketing responsibilities, working extensively with most of SAP’s BPO- and business service provider partners as well as key market influencers.  Before taking on these responsibilities for SAP’s global BPO-business in 2003 he had built and managed the marketing, business development and sales function for SAP’s B2B-and procurement exchange business in EMEA.

Prior to this he had managed SAP’s industry solution for the telecommunications industry on a global basis, having joined SAP from top-management consultancy McKinsey & Co., Inc., where he had focused on consulting engagements in the telecommunications and IT industries.

Christian holds a masters degree in computer science, an MBA and a PhD in Business Administration.

Christian has been elected “Person of the year” 2007 by the HR Outsourcing Association (HROA). He is a regular speaker on Business Process Outsourcing and how technology can help take outsourcing to the next level.

Mr. Bottka provides TPI’s clients with expert human resources outsourcing advisory services as an HR Global Practice Project Director. Clients benefit from Hary’s experience in HRO assessment, vendor due diligence, final requirements development and service delivery and support model for HR, payroll, benefits, compensation, and recruiting and staffing. Mr. Bottka is the Recruiting and Staffing Outsourcing Advisory Leader within the HR Practice at TPI. He assists clients improve their HR operations by assessing and structuring sourcing relationships for all aspects of workforce acquisition. His key leadership responsibilities include management and oversight of client projects, research and analysis of service provider practices, and development of outsourcing industry standards. Mr. Bottka has been involved in the emergence and growth of both the Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO) and Managed Service Provider (MSP) markets for the past three years.

Prior to joining TPI though the merger with Gildner & Associates, clients valued his strong insight into industry trends and his experience with service provider human resources issues. At Gildner & Associates, Hary specialized in identifying process and organizational gaps within human resource organizations and developed future state HR service delivery models.

Before joining Gildner & Associates, he was employed by the global consulting firm, Deloitte, where he utilized his knowledge of ERP systems and HR applications to assist top tier corporations to facilitate large-scale change initiatives within human resources organizations. His roles included managing teams evaluating the current state of HR organizations, developing future state HR service delivery models, and evaluating PeopleSoft HRMS environments. In one of his more recent roles, Mr. Bottka coordinated the outsourcing of HR, Payroll, and Benefits transactions for a global manufacturing conglomerate.

Hary holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and German from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He also is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management, and he has served on the Board of Directors for the Society for Technical Communication.

As an Associate Partner at TPI, Debora draws upon over 20 years of outsourcing and human resources management experience to help clients to clearly define the appropriate outsourcing service delivery strategy, execute on their outsourcing decision and implement effective relationships with their providers. Debora has been involved in over 50 engagements with Global 1000 companies ranging from strategic assessments to service provider selection to contract negotiations and restructurings.

Debora has been involved in negotiating more than 35 HR agreements and has applied that experience to developing and maintaining TPI’s intellectual property and HR relations with the legal community as the HR Services Leader for Contract Negotiations and Benchmarking,. She also manages the capture and assimilation of information into TPI’s HR Mark-to-MarketSM database of industry pricing and terms information.  Most recently, Debora led TPI’s collaboration with Tier I service providers to establish industry standard service level metrics and pricing units for the HR marketplace which were adopted by the Human Resources Outsourcing Association as their first published “recommended practices.”

Debora also has significant experience with global service delivery including a year on expatriate assignment in the United Kingdom.
Debora holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Marketing, and a Master of Business Administration degree in Human Resource Management and Corporate Strategy from the University of Michigan.

David has an MBA and lives in Tallahassee, Florida.

Stephen (Steve) Ditty is vice president of client services in the HR Management (HRM) line of business for Convergys Corporation, a global leader in relationship management. 

Steve is responsible for all client management activities, including profit and loss management, relationship management, quality and innovation management, commercial management, and implementation for a portfolio of HRM clients. He reports to John Gibson, president of HRM.
 
Before joining Convergys, Ditty held a number of increasingly responsible positions with companies such as Accenture and IBM.  Most recently he was senior executive for Accenture’s HR Outsourcing practice, playing a lead role for several of their key clients.

Steve holds a bachelor’s degree in management information systems from Pennsylvania State University.

Laura has a diverse background with more than 25 years of experience in Information Technology, Finance, Business Development and Human Resources. Her leadership roles in HR and operations include Transition Manager and later Director of HR Business Process Optimization for the Goodyear outsourcing relationship with ACS. The scope of this relationship included Payroll, Benefit Administration, HR Information Systems, multiple Call Centers, Self Service, Recruiting & Staffing and Training for the U.S.

As Goodyear divested its Engineered Products Division on August 1, 2007 in a sale to the Carlyle Group, Laura became the Director, Global HR Business Process Optimization for the newly formed company of Veyance Technologies, Inc.

Laura’s responsibilities at Veyance include creating the day-one readiness plan for HR service delivery, executed upon the sale, as well as future state stand-alone HR infrastructure and service delivery globally. The majority of countries where Veyance has facilities have used Transition Services Agreements with Goodyear for day-one service delivery. Through various outsourcing agreements, HR transformation and process improvement efforts, Veyance is on the verge of being completely independent of Goodyear for HR service delivery globally.

Franz Gilbert has been on the front line of the Outsourcing industry for the last 6 years, and has continued to help craft the successful solutions. While at Circuit City, as Director of Corporate Outsourcing Service, Franz was in charge of a rapid outsourcing effort that covered the enterprise, and involved taking 14 different areas through the outsourcing process (from assessing feasibility to closing the deal if appropriate). These areas ranged from finance, legal, procurement, HR and many others. Later, Franz moved to work for Hewitt Associates and has played a leading role on a number of key MP-HRO accounts in a variety of stages - implementation, stabilization, and renewal.

Liz leads the design and implementation of all enterprise human capital strategies for Kimberly-Clark, including global compensation and benefits, talent management, diversity and inclusion, organizational effectiveness and corporate health services.  In her role, she and the Human Resources staff work with the company’s business and functional leaders to develop and implement the strategies, processes and systems to further strengthen Kimberly-Clark’s performance-driven culture and ensure the company remains an organization in which great people can do their best work.

In her role as Chief HR Officer, Liz has focused on transforming human resources as a competitive business tool and as a function at Kimberly-Clark.  Most notably, she is leading the function to become more strategic and enable employee capability and productivity to increase revenue and profits.  To achieve this strategy, the function redesigned its business model and is making significant improvements to many processes including outsourcing transactional work.

Her career history with Kimberly-Clark includes joining in 1981 in a labor relations role at a manufacturing facility in Tennessee.  Following positions of increasing scope and responsibility within Human Resources, she moved into line operations management in 1991.  She held operational positions in several consumer products manufacturing facilities; then she moved into plant manager roles in the consumer products facility located in New Milford, Conn., and the nonwovens facility in Corinth, Miss.  In 2001, Liz was named Vice President of Human Resources and became Senior Vice President in 2002, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer.

Liz earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the State University of New York at Albany.  She serves on the board of the North Fulton Child Development Association, the Compensation and Benefits Committee of the American Heart Association and was elected to the Board of Directors of Louisiana Pacific Corporation in 2007.  She resides near Atlanta, Ga., with her husband Mark and their three daughters.

Senior Vice President, Human Resource Operations, The E.W. Scripps Company

As the Senior Vice President of human resource operations at The E. W. Scripps Company, Lisa Knutson combines successful human resources management with more than a decade of financial management experience to bring a focus of efficiency, productivity and fiscal discipline to the company’s HR functions.

She is responsible for strategic, long-range planning for Human Resources at Scripps. Knutson coordinated the development of the strategic framework for a redesign of HR that included signing a comprehensive mid-market outsourcing arrangement in early 2008.

Lisa lead a similar HR transformation initiative, and was an early adopter in the large market outsourcing industry, when she designed, implemented, and managed and outsourcing arrangement for Fifth Third Bank.

As the bank’s lead executive in HR finance and the vice president of its HR operations, she also was responsible for:

  • HR vendor management,
  • employee administrative services,
  • Six Sigma process improvement,
  • project management,
  • relocation services,
  • HR finance and reporting,
  • HR risk management,
  • HR accounting and compliance. 

Knutson began her career at Arthur Anderson where she worked in both the audit and tax departments before becoming a business consultant to small and emerging businesses. Her final assignment at Arthur Anderson was as the director of audit operations for the Great Lakes Market Circle.

A Certified Public Accountant, Knutson graduated from Miami University with a bachelor’s degree in accountancy. She is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Ohio Society of CPAs.

An energetic, client-centric leader who has achieved impressive results in sales, marketing, and client management throughout his career, Craig Maloney joined Hewitt in December 2000 and is the Division Leader for Hewitt’s Mid-Market Outsourcing Business. He has full P&L responsibility for the division and leads all aspects of the division including operations, product development, sales and client management.

As part of his role, Craig is focused on managing Hewitt’s recent acquisition of RealLife HR and setting the direction for Hewitt’s outsourcing initiatives in the Mid-Market. In his 20 year career in professional services and consulting, Craig has a proven track record for accelerating growth by delivering client-focused results and creating sustainable models with valued product and service offerings.

Craig most recently served as North American Sales Manager for Hewitt’s Benefits Outsourcing business. In almost ten years with Hewitt, Craig has a number of positions including Sales Executive, Managing Consultant and Account Executive with clients across a wide variety of industries.

Prior to joining Hewitt, Craig helped establish and lead Employease, one of the first companies to deliver Software as a Service (SaaS) in the HR space. In addition, he spent nearly 10 years at Marsh, Inc. in the International Practice where he served Japanese organizations and their operations in North America and Europe.

Fidelity Human Resources Services provides comprehensive human resources administration and services, including payroll, talent management, recruitment, consulting, and comprehensive benefit management. In his role, Mr. Mazor leads the strategy, design, management and marketing of the firm’s global human resources outsourcing offering.

Prior to joining Fidelity in 2007, Mr. Mazor held several senior leadership positions within the Human Capital Management Solutions division of ACS, Inc., where he shaped global strategy and growth initiatives, and led human resources outsourcing implementations, solution design, product strategy development, and product standardization efforts.

Having joined ACS through its acquisition of Mellon’s HR Outsourcing & Consulting business, Mr. Mazor previously served as a principal with Mellon Human Resources & Investor Solutions, an executive with Accenture HR Services and has held HR management and consulting roles with PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Mr. Mazor has assisted some of the world’s largest companies in shaping their HR organization, strategy, operations and service delivery model. Leveraging a combination of process improvement, technology, HR role design and outsourcing capability, Mr. Mazor brings substantial experience to managing and upgrading the Human Resource function within complex environments.

Mr. Mazor is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management and the Human Resource Planning Society, and has been a speaker at HR conferences with a variety of professional organizations including The Conference Board and HRO World Conference/NY HR Week. He is regularly interviewed by industry publications such as Workforce Management, HR Magazine, HR Executive and HRO Today.

Joel Meeker is vice president Global Support and Operations Standards for Convergys Corporation’s Employee Care (EC) business. He is responsible for a team of operational experts who act as liaisons between Client Services and Operations and is located in Jacksonville, Florida.

Prior to his current position, Meeker was vice president of Operations. He has also served as senior principal of BPO/acquisitions for EC and senior director of Business Development and director of Operations for Convergys.

Before joining Convergys, Meeker held several positions with American Transtech and AT&T.

Meeker earned his bachelor’s degree in applied behavioral science from the National College of Education.

Meeker is involved with the North Florida Hockey Association and is a USA Hockey official.

Carlos Nicot is Vice President Client Services in the HR Management (HRM) line of business for Convergys Corporation, a global leader in relationship management. 

Carlos is one of Convergys’ executive leaders responsible for all contract administration activities including managing the governance model for the Convergys and DuPont HR-BPO relationships.

Carlos is also the executive leader for the development of the global sourcing and supplier management organization, managing the total spend of more than 1000 suppliers across the globe providing payroll, information technology, health and benefits, learning, global mobility, and recruitment services. He reports to John Gibson, President of HRM.
 
Before joining Convergys, Carlos held a number of executive-level positions at companies such as QP Group, LLC, and Ryder Inc. Most recently he was vice president and co-founder of TranSpend, Inc., a sourcing and supply chain services practice.

Carlos holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Columbia University in New York, and holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of New Haven in Connecticut.

Stephen Nordahl is a partner in the Strategic Sourcing and Technology Group for Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP.  Stephen’s practice areas include  information technology and business process outsourcing transactions, joint ventures and strategic alliances.

Stephen joined Milbank's Strategic Sourcing Group in 1996 and has worked on many of the industry leading information technology and business process outsourcing transactions.  Stephen has represented AT&T, BellSouth, DuPont, JPMorgan Chase, Prudential, Best Western, and Omnicom in outsourcing transactions.   

Stephen has written numerous articles on outsourcing and technology and is a frequent lecturer.  He holds a B.S. in Economics from Lehigh University, a General Course Degree in Economics from the London School of Economics and a J.D. from Fordham School of Law.  Stephen lives in New York with his wife Natasha and their three sons.

Dana Shaw, in her role as Vice President, Strategic Solutions, is responsible for sales, services and strategy teams at Staffing Industry Analysts working with clients large and small. Dana leads her teams with a depth and breadth of understanding stemming from her 11 years of “in the trenches” experience. She held senior roles for such companies as Robert Half and Adecco, tackling subjects such as proprietary technology and VMS, compliance, MSP programs, training, implementation, global sales, ROI modeling and communication. Additionally, her expertise enables her to provide strategic consulting to a broad range of staffing company customers that are trying to improve their business models to Fortune 500 companies that are managing their contingent labor programs. She appears frequently as an industry veteran and subject matter expert when giving talks to global corporations and staffing executives and associations. Her professional associations and philanthropy work include: American Management Association, American Society for Training and Development, Envision and United Cerebral Palsy.

Ashwin Shirvaikar

Ashwin Shirvaikar, CFA

Ashwin Shirvaikar has been at Citi Investment Research since early 2000 and he is currently the senior analyst in charge of the Business & Professional Services sector. Ashwin’s coverage includes BPO companies like ACS, Accenture, Convergys, Hewitt and Genpact – he also covers staffing companies like Manpower and Kelly Services.  As such he is very knowledgeable on the emerging trends facing this growing market.

In all, Ashwin has over 15 years of work experience in this sector, which includes over six years of consulting and account management experience working with several blue chip clients and over eight years of experience covering companies in the sector. Ashwin also worked at AlliedSignal for three years from 1997-1999. At Allied, he initially worked within the defense/aerospace M&A group. Subsequently, he was as a finance manager for a New Ventures group at Allied, where he was responsible for the P&L. Ashwin earned an MBA degree from Cornell University in 1997. In addition, he also holds a Master‏s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati. He is also a CFA charter holder.

Mark is part of EquaTerra’s HR Practice Group which focuses on delivering value to clients in the transformation of their HR service delivery capability.

With almost 30 years of business experience, the last twenty in Outsourcing (HRO, ITO and FAO); Mark has sold, transitioned and delivered outsourcing services. In FAO Mark operating as COO of an FAO provider. In HRO, he has managed day-to-day service delivery globally and led large complex service transitions.

Prior to EquaTerra, Mark worked for MCI Systemhouse (acquired by EDS), Exult (acquired by Hewitt), TPI, Ephinay and Accenture. With Exult, Mark was Client Executive for BP, Exult’s founding client, and then ran North American Operations, developing Exult’s global delivery strategy. At Accenture, Mark ran global Operations for their HRO business delivering service to, and from, every region in the world.

He has extensive operations, conversion and implementation experience with major ERP platforms including SAP and PeopleSoft as well as numerous point solutions, including integrating third party systems delivery platforms.

Mark has led a number outsourcing transactions, including vendor and supplier relationships, renegotiations and scope expansions. In addition, Mark has been involved in over 25 outsourcing transactions. Called “HRO’s Ultimate Insider” Mark was interviewed by HRO Today magazine in their April 2006 issue and quoted in the June 2008 issue. Mark has also presented and been a panelist at IHIRM and HROWorld conferences. As client executive, he shared the 2008 HROA Buyer/Advisor Relationship of the Year award with his client, the E. W. Scripps Company.

A dual citizen (US and Canada), Mark speaks English and French. He is a graduate of McGill University (Montreal, Canada) with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and is a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) in Canada.
